I have a yahoo premium account which allows pop access using outlook express etc
I know people who have just ordinary yahoo accounts who cannot access using pop
More out of curiosity than anything I was wondering how this was done? (i.e the blocking on non-premium pop access)

If there is a Yahoo email admin monitoring this list, s/he might know exactly how this is accomplished and might let us know in a general way.
How we do it, running Microsoft Exchange 2003, is by disabling POP mailbox access for the individual user. This is a configuration option in the mailbox setup in the Exchange System Manager.
Other mailservers accomplish this through their internal configuration (as opposed to an external method). I SUSPECT Yahoo does it by enabling POP access for Premium users, and allowing WEB access / denying POP access for standard users.
Were you looking for a more detailed desciption, or just wondering which device or service generates the capability?
