I am looking for a method of utilizing a fingerprint reader on the iSeries. From an RPG program, I would like to prompt for input from a fingerprint reader and accept data from the reader. I do not want to utilize any 3rd party vendor software to do this.

Hi rharding,
Ive been looking at a lot of biometrics options for a C++ project I am working on so I dont know if my info will be of too much use…

First question to you
Are you running Windows or Linux or something else?
Do you already have a reader, If not, How much do you want to spend?
I ask this because Microsoft do a reasonable reader for about $38 and the softare bolts sraight in to Windows 2000, XP or Server 2000 – 2003

Second question,
How secure are you hoping this will be?
Theres a lecturer in Japan that got around 90% of readers 80% of the time with 10 minutes work and some gummi bears. I think I still have the link if you want.

I have no experience of RPG programming, so I cannot help you there, sorry
