A quick Web search turned up an inexpensive SDK called <a href="http://www.componentsource.com/features/authentication/visual-basic/index.html">Fingerprint SDK 2009</a> that you might find interesting. I've never used this component and am not recommending or endorsing it - only mentioning an available option.
