 Biometric based secuity system
I'm looking for information based on experience that anyone might have with the various technologies used for Biometric time clocks. In particular, the reliability of Retina scans vs Finger print vs Facial Recognition. I've installed a low end system from WASP that works well enough for the company I installed it for (based in finger prints), don’t have a lot of first hand knowledge more than that. Now I'm helping another consultant/friend in setting up a system that is more about security/area access control that just guys "punching the clock" at the end of their shift. Ease of use is important (isn't it always?) There will not be a high amount of traffic though it, so it does not necessarily need to be fast. Computer Logging is a must, as is weatherproof durability for one of the pass-points. His customer is willing to spend a little money on this project. Links to relevant sites are welcome, but experience is better. Thanks!

Answer Wiki:
Hi, I've done alot of contracting for the MOD and USAF on bases in the UK. To put it bluntly, dont use the above methods if high security is needed; all can be bypassed. Certainly do not opt for face recognition, for finger print recognition. These have major flaws still (google). MOD have used retina scanning (modified from open source) in conjunction with 12 digit passcode. I'll talk about a few limitations of the other two for you specifically. You mentioned weather proof, now if you chose face recognition problems would be created by wearing a hat/helmet/hood in the rain for example; likewise fingerprints to not take well to rain or dirt. Average time for retaina from start to access is 10 - 20secs with access code allowing start of retina scan, depending on user database and access right rules etc. Good luck.

Here’s a good site for all things physical security including biometrics that will probably help you out:
