I assisted one of my friends in setting up a wireless connection for his home. We used a simple Linksys 4 port wireless router with out any issues. As a matter of fact, he is using that router and has sent back the router the satellite company provided. There were not any special settings we needed to worry about. Now, the newer routers do have the capibility of selecting the transfer speed and additional ping for faster connections, this is the best way to keep the transfer speeds up.
The make or model of the Wireless access point probably doesn’t matter, they are all pretty much the same these days, I’ve found the Netgear and Linksys to be easy to install and configure. They are also a very good price.
Make sure you get an ACCESS POINT and not a router as you just need lan connectivity. Check the kind of coverage you need, how big is the office.. if the floor is fairly big you might need two ACCESS POINTS for good coverage.
Then think about securing your aqccess points. If all the machines accessing the wireless connection are a known quantity I recommend using the access list restriction by hardware id. This is VERY hard to spoof and means nothing not in the list can access the network. It’s more secure than a pre-shared key because there is a chance someone ‘outside’ can discover the key.

Linksys Wireless WRT54G. Works best with iDirect modems in my experience. I agree that they are mostly the same. Also have a look at the Netgear range. Your VSAT speed also comes into question. Make sure that the speed of your WiFi does not bring down the speed of your VSAT.
