 Benefits of wireless router upgrade

What are the benefits of upgrading my wireless router to dd-wrt open source firmware? Is it true I can boost my signal? Is it safe? Is there a chance I can brick my router?

Simply, its a much nicer interface and you get more features. Is perfectly safe as long as you do it right but there is the potential for errors (we are all human after all). Go to: <a href="http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Index:FAQ">FAQ</a> ...and see if your router is supported first of all. Then read up before trying it. That will mitigate some risk in the upgrade. As for speed increases, possibly, depends on hardware.
