Storage
Sorry to bother you all today, I am doing sales for a local IT company here in Shanghai, China and one of my customers would like to build a simple backup system at his office. With a budget of around 5 thousand USD, his office currently consists of 4 computers(expand to 20 in the next year) and is an Remote Representative Office for a large manufacturer of products. They can currently backup to their server in Europe, but they want to have something more stable here where they can back up their info onto. Thanks alot for your help, tim

You haven’t said what architecture the network is using.. Is it a local workgroup with the server(s) located in Europe? Where are the files being saved (locally/remotely/local server) ???

If say you have a local server (win2k3) I’d use the shadowed folders on the server with DPM(file based backup) (cannot be DC) and Vertitas Tape Backup..

Norton Ghost with an administrator having full privileges on all machines (or a user with Backup Group privliledges) to backup the local machines on a regular basis..

How much information is being saved locally (and the value of this information if lost) on a daily basis would be the deciding factor..

Having a local server and all the files being saved centrally would make things easier for a backup scenario.
