We do have a lots of Bandwidth testing sites like http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ where we calculate the download and upload speed. I want to know what is downloaded to our system and what is uploaded to the server and how are the Bandwidth calculated. what needs to be the prerequisite at the time of choosing a server? Please do let me know your feedback. Thank you.

Answer Wiki:
You can use a packet capture tool like Wireshark to find out exactly what data crosses the wire during the test. One bandwidth testing site that I like is Numion. It seems very comprehensive and gives a lot of detail about the tests and results. ******************************************* WireShark is a nice packet sniffer, but if you have not used one before it might be a bit confusing. This Site is a good basic guide to using the program. This site has an explanation of how one speed testing site measures bandwidth. I'd imagine that different sites use different metric for measurement. This Site has a bandwidth testing tool and many other tools for network security and optimization. There is also just a lot of good info here for anyone who deals with network security. Good Luck! -Flame
