 Backup/Restore Today & Tomorrow
Looking to re-invent our Backup/Restore system. Throw everything out and start again.  But where to start?

What is the leading edge technology today, that once installed and setup, will allow me to forget B/R till 2020?

I have over 1PByte of data to deal with.

Whats the best backup strategy? Continual incremental? Tiering?

Answer Wiki:
The way things are looking, you would want to implement a multi-tier solution with tape at the end if needed. New technologies to look at: Dedupe (FalconStor, Data Domain, Exagrid, etc.) VTL (Virtual Tape Library) Replication (SAN-Level) vSphere with HA & Fault Tolerance (VMware) The top 3 technologies can depending on the vendor be on a single platform to reduce your IT footprint and combine it with VMware's vSphere. =================== The best way to backup your hard disk drive is to store your important files into a separate drive. You have to set your own schedule depending on the need of your computer to store files, for instance daily, weekly or monthly.
