Backup on V5R2 and Restore on V4R5

I have to Systems( one AS/400 running OS/400 V4R5 and An iSeries running i5/OS V5R2). Can I backup for example a file on the machine running V5R2 and restore on the one running V4R5?

Yes, you can save objects/libraries for restoring up to two versions back. Specify the Taget Release to be V4R5M0. You should see that is an allowed traget release when you do the save.

    Note that even the "two versions (releases) back" guideline fails if a new feature is not supported in the older release. For physical files on V5R2, I can't think of any reason why they couldn't be restored on V4R5. But the idea must be kept in mind whenever differences in releases exist. Tom

    You should prompt the TGTRLS parameter to see which releases are valid to restore to.
