I've been trying to get Backup Exec 12.5 to do a proper GRT backup of our sharepoint site. the site IS running on the WID (MSEE##) sql express. The GRT backup (yes all the agents are installed) starts and does fine with the config, admin, & search. Then it gets to the content db and won't build the catalog. I can see the IMG file that contains the actual data. The BE process says "updating catalogs" but never gets done, not even after several hrs on a 1.8 GB database. Cancelling it is rough as the cancel hangs up as well and it takes about 3-4 tries of killing services before it blows. This leaves the 3 temp files (640K each) in the catalog folder. It always makes these 3 .tmp files quickly and then stops. I've set the temp and catalog folders to be OFF the c: drive and in a place where there is lots of room. The perms are all good and work for the other databases. Even stranger, I have a MOSS instance on another server, very small, but it backups up fine. One difference is that the WSS-3 is on the WID engine and the MOSS is on a SQL 05 server. If anyone knows for sure what this is I'be be happy to hear it. I plan to move the WSS site off the WID and onto another SQL 05 server anyway so that may solve the problem

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

SQL Express is just SQL Server with a limit of only allowing databases up to 4 gigs and things like the SQL Agent and SSIS aren’t included.

Try running the backup again. When it hangs connect to the SQL Express instance and query the sys.sysprocesses DMV and find the processes for the BACKUP DATABASE Command which is currently running. What’s the wait type information (all 3 fields please)?
