The idea that you have is kind of scary! I don’t mean to sound so
downbeat on it, but you are making me believe that you are going to not only
use your DC as a file server, but you are also thinking about setting the other
DC as an exchange backup location!?? Both are NON best practice! Or am I reading your question wrong?? Anyways…in the
interest of assisting you original question…
I would suggest looking into Central Profile management and Folder Redirection.
Another area that needs clarifying is… Are your servers capable of hosting Virtual Machines? Meaning…. Do they support (or can they stand up) a virtualization environment!?
Also…definitely consider some Central File Storage that both of the existing servers
can communicate to (i.e.: a SAN or simple NAS box would do ya?), then
regardless of which “server went down”, file access will still be
available, as it’s on a separate hardware device.
I can obviously go into this much deeper, (and explain my first paragraphs
hesitations) but before I DO go too deep into this, let me know if any of what
I’m saying so far sparks your interest, or is at least what you might be after exploring!
