Backup and restore with Backup Exec 2010

I have a Lotus Domino 6.5 environment , clients as well. I have 2 questions , I'll ask the first one then once I get that answer I'll ask the next . I have recently upgraded Symantec to BE 2010. The new agent will no longer talk to the Lotus 6.5 databae , this is the Symantec remote agent for Lotus Dominos database. I am able to backup all the files in the Lotus notes directory however. In the event that I need to restore a user mailbox and associated files / documents , can I do it using just the files in that folder that are backed up ?

Without the remote agent, If a mail file is being backed up at the same time that the router tries to deposit a piece of mail into the file, the database can become corrupted. The effect is only on the database in production on the server; it does not effect the file that is on the backup tape. AFAIK, the remote agent only accomplishes one thing (and, in our experience, often doesn’t even do that). That is, it temporarily marks the file being backed up as “busy” so that the router doesn’t access it at the same time. As long as your backups are good (able to perform a clean restore), you should have no problems. With the exception of Domino 8.x with DAOS running, everything you need to restore a user’s mailfile is in the Domino directory (e.g., /Lotus/Domino/data). HTH.

    Ok , what about restoring a mailbox if I needed to . If a user had a mailbox and docuements , attachments etc can restore from the backup of the files alone ?

    Domino / Notes .nsf databases contain everything in one place Calendar / Mail / To Do's /etc. By restoring the DB everything in the restore will come back. The problem you have is that restoring to the same place with the server up will corrupt the database as the Domino server will have LOCKED the data. By restoring it to somewhere else (or delete the live) the data will all be as expected. Please Notes: this is if the data in the backup was successful. I would say you should check out Symantec for support with this also if you are unable to find out why the open file agent is not working.
