Authentication only working from one domain controller
We have a branch office 2003 AD design. One of our groups hosts their division's AD servers. Each site has 2 domain controllers in which they share the rolls. They are complaining that when the global catalog server is down or not available authentication fails. Any ideas as to why this would happen?

Answer Wiki:
all domain controllers should be set up as global catalog servers, thus ensuring that authentication can occur. It is always better to authenticate at each site instead of aacross the WAN. If the branch office has 2 DCs and each is a GC then you won't have any auth problems unless you have a major catastrophe
