Assigning a LUN to a server in a data centre 20KM away

We have two data centres about 25KM away from each other.  We would like to assign a LUN to a server in data centre A to an storage array in data centre B.  We are doing this because of lack of disk space in  data centre A. Is this best practice ?  what are the possible performance hits ?

We have dark fibre between the two sites and FCIP modules in both sites.

Software/Hardware used:
HP EVA - FC-IP

That typically isn’t best practice as the storage access over the WAN between the sites will be a LOT slower than within the same site. But if you have to do it, you have to do it.

All you should have to do it…
On the site with the server you should just need to create a zone between the port for the server and the port going to the FCIP switch. On the site with the array create a zone between the port for the array and the port for the FCIP switch.

If I remember my FCIP switches correctly that should allow the array to present storage to the server.

You might need to create a stretch fabric where the switches in both sites become part of the same fiber channel fabric. Then you simply zone from the array to the server.
