ASP, ASPX Pages give error

Windows XP, IIS, ASP.NET

I have a Windows XP Media Edition PC. Recently IIS stopped serving ASP and ASPX pages, though HTML was still ok. ASP and ASPX gave an HTTP 500 error, and the event log had the following message:

The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC'. The error was 'The specified metadata was not found.'.

I searched the internet and tried every suggested solution I found, with no luck.

I got out my system restore disks and restored the system to the original state, then installed IIS and the .NET framework. IIS configuration shows that ASP.NET 2.0.50727 is installed. But it still gives the same error when I try to view either an ASP or an ASPX page.

Help please - it's driving me crazy.

I also had the same problem but I got success to remove this. You better had first uninstall the asp.net component and Framework Only, whatever you are using from your PC and then install it again after restarting you PC. Hope you find solution to the problem.
