I have AS/400 9406-270 with expansion unit 12 H.D.(4318)connected to 2763 IBM PCI RAID Disk Unit Controller assigned as ASP1.(175GB with ASP %91) I added six 4318 H.D.(to decrease the percentage)and connected them as parity to second 2763 IBM PCI RAID Disk Unit Controller and I assigned them as ASP2 so they are o.k. configured. when I use WRKSYSSTS the ASP Capacity increased from 175GB to 280GB but the ASP % percentage stell 91 does not decreased. the Question is that how to make the ASP2 protected and active and how to access ASP2 and how decrease the ASP%. This is the first time to connect Hard Disk to ASP2.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The % is ASP %. If you want to increase the size of ASP1 and bring down your usage percentage YOU HAVE TO ADD DISK TO ASP1.

ASP 1 is known as the "System ASP". ASP 2 would the first "user ASP". If you view the DSPSYSSTS display, the percentage reported will be for the System ASP. There will be two sizes reported -- the first size will be for the System ASP and the second size will be for the System ASP plus all User ASPs. If you create a library, one of the parameters will be ASP(). The default is ASP(1). If you now specify ASP(2), then objects that you create in that library will be created in the pool of disks that you built ASP 2 from. The space for those objects will be taken from ASP 2 rather than from ASP 1. That means that those objects won't decrease the available space in your System ASP. But you probably don't want it to work that way. You will need to remove the disks you added to ASP 2 and add them back as part of ASP 1. That will allow their space to be available under the "System ASP" as you want. You could save a library that currently exists in ASP 1 and restore it to ASP 2. This would reduce the space used in ASP 1 and use some space in ASP 2. (There are details and some restrictions to watch.) But again, that's probably not what you want. Be aware that the designation of an ASP number is not the same thing as assigning drives to RAID sets. ASP can serve a purpose that is slightly related to RAID protections, but they are very different features. Tom
