AS400/iseries infoprint server IPDS printing to windows printer
AS/400, iSeries, iSeries applications, InfoPrint Server, AS/400 printing
We currently use software to control IPDS generated printer files and route to a windows printer. I am hoping we can get rid of this if we upgrade to use Infoprint server feature. Our main driver is that IPDS output needs to go straight to a windows printer. I see from the IBM red book that the print transform should do this but I need to be sure that this works for IPDS generated output sent to a regular windows printer. Can anyone offer any advice? The printing should be automatic so when the print is generated it goes direct and no one has to move files from one queue to another.

We use an application from IO Corporation called Adaptio. It is well priced and they have good support.

I’m unaware of way to print IPDS from the AS400 to a PCL printer without either having a IPDS emulator installed or a 3rd party app getting involved to convert the IPDS stream to PCL then forwarding it to the printer.

If your dealing with a couple of IPDS printers then I’d recommend staying with a Infoprint printers.
But if you’re talking 10+ printers then a server based solution will probably scale up better.

IPDS card runs $600 extra per printer. Some of the 3rd party solutions tout a lower per printer cost but you usually need 5 or more printers before you see any real savings.

IO corp puts out a couple of solutions. (I personally stick with the IBM options like the Infoprinter line)
