We have an AS400e 600 (S20 2166), however, it does not start up properly, the IPL panel lights up, but the rest of the system does not seem to power on, any ideas where we have gone wrong?

is the system new? was it in production?
Do you have the console properly attached (Port 0) and properly setup (address = 0)?
OK, nice pictures, try to boot the system with a LIC CD and the front panel at D M(I think this is the hand symbol on a 600 series. You might need a key to change the mode button. Your system possibly has no software loaded.
We cannot get a cd in the drive, it will not open, neither it nor the tape driver appear to have power. The display seems to be setup correctly, but I’m not sure as to what setting might be wrong. Whichever IPL is selected, A, B, C, or D and the white button pressed, the green light next to the power (white) button blinks and turns solid green, after a period of about 5 seconds, the green goes, and an orange light above a slanted line comes back on.
Does any set of number/letters show up in the display on the CPU when the orange light (System Attention) comes on?
The number ’10112232′ appears in the display, however, none of the CPU lights come on.
Sounds like a power issue. Check your SRC # at the IBM infocenter web site.
I cannot find anything on the IBM website ?

” My “guess” from looking at SRC codes…
1xxxxxxx = System Power Control Network (SPCN) problem
x01xxxxx = Frame 01
xxx1xxxx = Processor side of frame
xxxx2232 = Failing unit
So, it does seem to be power; but I found nothing on any 2232 unit code for an AS/400. I searched V3R7 through V4R3 system handbooks since that would be a reasonable range. And a basic google on “as400 2232″ came up with nothing recognizeable in the first hundred hits.
Maybe someone else has info. That’s the best from me.”
Ok… so how can I fix this problem?
Thanks for all your replies btw.
2232 is the processor feature code for a 620. Uh Oh.
I’ve been looking in the As/400e Problem Analysis and repair manual, and I’ve found this:
“Is the SRC 1xxx 2232?
No Yes
↓ The failing item is the signal cables, exchange the following parts one
at a time:
v Panel to expansion cover cable
? SIG8A
- Part 44H8339 installed (with cover interlock) replace with
–part 44H4599 kit.
- Part 87G0785 installed (without cover interlock) replace with
–part 87G0785.
- – Interlock jumper — part 44H8340.”
How can I sort this problem out? I do not know which parts those are.
Sounds to me like you need to be talking to your hardware support company. They would be the ones to be replacing parts or checking connections inside the box.
I’ve looked over the system, and manual, and it was just have a plain EPO problem – one of the interlock jumpers was not seated.
.
Now, I get the message B90034B0 from OS/400, also I do not know what the default password for OS/400 V4R2 is ? Otherwise its going to be a phone call to the previous owners to try and track down the last operator
Thanks for all your help so far.
I have the system running now, but I cannot seem to network it with the cables I have – what type of ethernet cable is compatible with these systems?
have you created your line descriptions and attached them to the correct port?
I believe that it is set up correctly. Both lines vary on, but then a system message appears saying that the lines have failed, and that a possible hardware or cabling fault is to blame – I have run a test on both, and it has reported that the hardware is fine, so I concluded that it must be the cabling – either that or the setup. I havnt an example set up, so I am assuming the line setup I have atm is correct?
