I’m pretty sure IBM has completely dropped new iSeries systems IE: Models 810, 820 (for sure), 825, 870 and 890. You should be able to purchase one used from IBM Credit Corp or any number of third party resellers. However, the pricing for the OS is pretty high, P30 and P40 tiers. You can get the same horsepower on a 570 or 595 and pay less on the OS licenses (570 with a P20 tier)and either save money or be close to even depending on the configurations.

I may not understand your question clearly so forgive me if I’m answering “around” your question out of misunderstanding. IBM continues to sell the latest models of the AS/400 although they now call it the System i/5. It’s the same machine architecture but a different (updated) name using the latest in IBM hardware technology. Physically it’s more or less identical to IBM’s Unix compatible offering (the System p/5) except for the different operating system that comes preloaded on it. The IBM home page can give you more information. Click on “Systems, servers and storage” under the “Learn About” column heading.
If, however, you are looking for an upgrade to a previously purchased AS/400 model then you will need to research more carefully to see if upgrades are still being offered directly by IBM. Try this web page on the IBM site and look for the “Earlier models” tab to see which of the previous models IBM is still marketing. You can also check with an IBM VAR who may be able to provide detailed information about what is available in the used market.
