Hi,

We are moving Values to Database Fields using Embedded SQL Concept. In Embedded SQL, We can decide the Variable Names dynamically. Is it possible with Display File? why?

Answer Wiki

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

There will be no specific function in SQL for recognizing display files.
As you mentioned, we can decide the variable names dynamically. But, We cant be able to map these variables with DSPF Record format.

Pradeep.

No/Yes/Maybe NO, Dynamic SQL only works with the Database engine not with display files. YES, you careate a physical file with the same 100 fields types and names. You could then use Dynamic sql to write to the 50 fields that applyy. Then you could read that record and you would have the 100 fields in memory with 50 populated and you could write to your display. Painful but possible. Better. create three data structures DSINPUT with 50 Input fields DSOUTPUT1 with 50 display fields for case 1 DSOUTPUT2 with 50 dispay fields for case 2 And based on the field value DSOUTPUT1 = DSINPUT or DSOUTPUT2 = DSINPUT There were more answers on the last thread. Is it possible with Display File? No. why? Because SQL doesn't recognize display files. It's for database files. Tom
