AS400 - 820 - V5R3V0 - I have a couple of printers, Genicom line printers, when a request is sent to print a report about 5 minutes later the same report is printed again. These are interactive jobs requesting this report. I have checked everywhere I can think of and can not find a reason for this. Do you know whey or how to stop this from happening? Thank you. Doris

Hi Doris,
Are you sure, it’s the spoolfile sending the print’s? Seems a little strange to have the same spoolfile sent to different printers at different time. Similiar requests from user applications sent at same (or almost same) time is common. It might be helpfull to set the respective spoolfile on hold or (better) route these jobs to a special spoolfile which is on hold (this will no prevent other jobs from printing) to be able to analyze the cause of this.

Hi, I suggest you take the printer off line and try running the job that creates the prints, then see whether you get 2 spooled files for the job or whether the spooled file is marked as having 2 copies. If not, then I'd say it's something with the printer. I'm not familiar with these printers, do they have large print buffers? Maybe they're storing the whole spooled file and reprinting it for some reason. Regards, Martin Gilbert.

Hello I could be within the print file telling it to print 2 copies. You coulld do a CHGPRTF, and prompt, put in the file name, library and hit F10 for more options. Page down to see how many copies are set for that file. TPinky

I'm with Martin on this.. End the writer or hold the print queue.. Run the job and see what you get in the queue. Do you get two copies on everything going to these printers or just from specific jobs. The "about 5 minutes" part is a bit strange. Really strange. What model printer and what type of interface? Regards Mike

Invoices are sometimes printed interactively, sometimes in batch...perhaps you are seeing invoices printed by two different processes. I've seen invoicing jobs create two images - one to print and one for some storage/viewing/recall or some process catches the original spollfile for that use. So you're looking for two output processes in the program or a job that is starting periodically and looking for invoices to capture or a job that is looking for invoices to print. Good luck. Phil
