Does anyone know of a way to have the system call a program when a user's screen is idle for a certain period of time?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I take it that you want this to run outside the user’s program.

You could capture a picture of the active jobs every … minute? if the same job is in wait state it’s a candidate.

Perhaps you could capture the number of I/O’s on the current display file and compare to the last time?

I don’t know of anything which does this.

The RPG programs and DDS can be changed to time.
Here is a good source for this.

Hi, It's possible to use the system values QINACTITV and QINACTMSGQ to call a program to handle an idle job. When the job exceeds the QINACTITV a message is sent to the QINACTMSGQ message queue. You can write a program to wait for the message to be received and "process" the idle job (for example send a message to QSYSOPR and disconnect the idle job). Regards, Martin Gilbert.
