Thanks Dan......you will find that the REN and DEL is the short version of RENAME and DELETE. I did find MDEL handles * chars, but could not find anything for REN to handle an asterix. Ideally I would like to do be able to do the command REN *.txt *.dat on the AS/400 FTP session

First, are you referring to the AS/400 ftp client or the AS/400 ftp server? AFAIK, there is no AS/400 ftp server support for generic* names in the REN and DEL ftp subcommands. (I'm not sure if any ftp servers support them, but I've never checked.)

However, there is support for remote commands by the AS/400 ftp server. One command that might be available through an AS/400 ftp server is STRQSH. If Qshell is available and the STRQSH command is allowed by the system, then you can run Qshell utilities to rename or delete.

Many QSH possibilities exist. You could call a script, possibly one that you just uploaded, or you could run single utilities, or you could run compound statements.

Given RCMD support, there doesn't seem to be any need for REN or DEL wildcard support within the ftp server.
