Is there a way of creating specific non-display fields within an AS400 physical file created via DDS SRC?

Hi. I am a little confused by this question. All fields in a physical file are “non-display” unless you “display” them with a query, with a display file, or other means (DBU, DFU, etc). The term “non-display” doesn’t apply to physical file fields unless i’m missing something. Could you tell us in what application you want these fields to be non-displayed?

About the only thing I can imagine for "non-display" in a PF might be creating a LF that leaves out one or more fields of the PF. Grant users authority to the LF. The fields that are left out would not be "displayed" when the LF was used. But clarification is really needed. What is the business case being solved? Tom

Non-display (DSPATR(ND)) isn't available in physical or logical files - it's a keyword reserved to display files (don't know about print files, but I doubt it). TomLiotta's right about hiding specific fields through the use of a logical file, but this only makes sense if you're letting users access the file directly & need to prevent them from seeing certain data.

In PF all fields are Non Display fields and for displaying selected fields make a query that will select only those fields in which u are intrested to display.

If I understand your question correctly, you are looking for a way to only display the fields in a file you are interested in on a report. If you are using Query/400, there is an option called "Select and sequence fields". This will only show the fields you select on the report. If you are using something else, then we need to know what it is because each utility has its own way of selecting data.
