Can a Load Source Disk Unit and Normal Disk Units run with Same Disk Controller (RAID)? And also in V5R4M0...Can we run AS/400 with external Load Source disk units on 550 box? If Data Disk units are managed by External (SAN), do we still require Disk Controller in AS/400 side? Your answers are highly appreciated.

Load-source can be included in various RAID configurations. I assume that a 550 meets requirements; my 515 has no problem though I'm running i 6.1.
    .
To know about external drives and load-source, you need to download and check hardware requirements in the IBM i and IBM System Storage: A Guide to Implementing External Disks on IBM i RedBook. There are a number of possible combinations that support it back to V5R3.

What is the HMC version? I'm not sure if there is a way to determine which of many SYSPLANs is "the correct one". All of them can be "correct". It depends on what they were created for. Whoever created them should know their purposes. . Personally, I would probably create my own in such a case. (I might remove it after I was done, too, to avoid having another one hanging around.) . BTW, I assume that you can't use serial number to identify different ones. -- Tom
