The request shutdown was caused by either the user turning the power off, by a device error, or the ASCII controller inactivity timer expired. Recovery . . . : Close the files and vary the device off (VRYCFG command.

One user in a my shop gets disconnected from AS/400 occasionally and gets this message. We are V5R1 amd using 5250 Emulator on Windows XP. Please help. Thank you.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

In my experience, that usually has to do with connectivity. Check out your cables or even the punch down in the closet (depending on your setup). Swap them out and repunch and see how that goes. Check the QHST log and look for a time that coincides with the joblog creation time. There may be more info there.

A common mistake for the user to make is to close down their 5250 emulation like it's any other application. They do this without signing off the AS/400first. Another reason could be the users are using way too many macros.... so much that the memory on the PC can't handle it all and it closes the 5250 session, or they are playing them back in the wrong field where it won't accept the characters recorded in the macro. These issues happen all the time here.

Before anything else, review the Inactivity Timeout for Communication Links subtopic in the Considerations for Using Personal Communications Sessions section of the documentation. Also check the Telnet connection timeout gives 657 error subtopic of the PComm Read-me. Tom
