Answer Wiki:
Not sure about configuration changes but if you change Backup command to not save access paths will shorten backup time but will increase restore time due to the fact that access paths will be rebuilt at restore time.....Rick Not necessarily LTO2 specific, but I have those also and have changed to a backup to virtual tape (i.e. backup to disk) which is much faster, that DUPTAPing that backup to physical media on the LTO2s and sending that offsite....Carter You can as well save to save files and dump latter on the tape. As well you can use MONMSG in the beginning of the process and it will short the process. Sol

Backup to tape is serial, so you only get the speed of the hardware.

Backup less data, buy faster drives. Eliminate any waiting time due to locks / establishing save while active points.

Move the backups in time – maybe backup journal receivers during daytime at low priority.

There are a couple of parms on the backup commands that allow for compression and compaction.
Data compression may cause the backup to run longer – but then turning it off may require using more tape..
