We have an as/400 and an ecommerce website. They are both independent of each other. I would like to connect the as/400 to the website so we can do orders the will go through the as/400, presently we take orders and then manually enter the sale. Also inventory control for the website would be great. What software is needed to accomplish this?

Are you hosting your website? If you are you could do something like the current projects I'm working on. I am creating web services that are triggered from the website that send the data to our I-Series via an XML document. On a write to the "order header" information it fires a trigger program ( use ADDPFTRG to the file with the program name) to process & create an order via our EDI application running on our I-Series.

Another option (note that this one requires a real commitment to this process) we did at my last company was:

A "web" AS/400 that hosts the site and handles all server-like activity. You need to have GCI enabled (even if you don't directly use it - at least that's what we did), Apache (or equivalent ?), PHP support, and probably more (I didn't do the support stuff).

Order Entry was done in a PHP program on the web 400. Some JavaScript required, plus html. We could validate data (e.g., item#) and write to the "data" AS/400 via SQL.

It all worked nicely after many setbacks (hard to trace the cause when something didn't work as expected).

Sorry I don't have much detail here. My point is that it can be done.

Thanks. We do host our own website and would like customers orders to be linked to the 400 along with inventory and credit card processing. Is there a program that does this or do we have to hire a coder to do the work?
    Thanks again.

I expect you'd need someone to write custom code ... but that's always my first choice for anything important (so it's possible there could be a somewhat generic answer out there).
