Q:
AS/400 - 2 questions
Hi All,
1) Cumulative PTF - C8305540 - Has anyone applied this on a 525 series? I hear that some recent CUME packages have caused systems to hang during IPLs(??) also is your opinion, If things are working correctly, should we load this cume package? Our current level is: CUMULATIVE PTF PACKAGE C8183540.

2) Is it possible to configure a dumb terminal as a console on our 525 AND continue to use OPS CONSOLE from home? Our CE said he did not think both could be configed at the same time(??) but he was not real sure. If we can configure both, how do I go about it?

Thanks in advance!!!

1. I had no issues going to the C8183540 on my 520.

2. Dumb terminals use twinax for connectivity to the AS400. Now-a-days they have thin clients that use emulation to access the AS400 just as client access would. These thin clients can be used with TCP/IP. You can definitely setup a terminal and OPS Console because they are separate things, but what are you really trying to accomplish?

I think you can only have one console device. There is a system value QCONSOLE the contains the name of the console device.

We have several consoles connected to our AS400, but moving forward you should use TCP/IP based clients because Twinax will soon be gone.
