Are there any large scale SIP based analog/IP converters out there?

We are deploying a large scale VoIP system based on Asterisk and SIP, but some of our warehouses want to keep using the existing analog phones. Are there any large scale SIP based analog/IP converters out there? Or should we be looking for a different approach?

We have an Asterisk phone switch at our office. I know that at one point we had some linksys VOIP boxes setup. They are basically a little 3″x3″ box with a power cable, a phone jack and an Ethernet port on them. The sole purpose is to get analog phones hooked up to a VOIP switch.

We don’t use them any more, but when I’m back in the office on Monday I’ll try and remember to get the model number for you.

Hi I just saw this as I am about to deploy 100extns of analogue phones onto an Asterisk-based platform. You can use an analogue to ethernet converter as you describe, if there is a spare or VLAN’d Cat5 port at each user position. If not (as I suspect there is not on your warehouse scenario?), you need to deploy something else. Either:

1 An alaogue PBX with a PRI interface, then a PRI to SIP converter and final connection to the LAN or SIP trunk provider, or:

2 A DSLAM to connect to the LAN, with a small DSL (£25) modem at each extension port. This will enable you to deploy IP phones over standard CW1308 (telephone type) wiring.
