Are the Dell Rack Servers any good these days?
I'm wondering how these servers compare to their comparable IBM counterparts.

Answer Wiki:
I come from an all Dell Shop. The Poweredge Servers were good. Other than a couple of harddrive replacements, I had no real issues. One server did die on me but it was 5 years old and I beleive the cause was because of the air conditioning problem we had shortly before the failure. Both processors went on it and the warrenty was up so we retired it. We were slated for new virtual servers anyways, which are all Dell. I have had more problems in the last few months on the new job because of HP Servers, than I did in 8 years of Dell Servers.

Dell servers are fine. I’ve been deploying poweredge servers for the past 5 years and have no complaints. Economy brands are great for most implementations.

I came from wholly IBM and HP shops before my current job. So I had lots of reservations against switching to Dell. After 5 years I find that they’re doing a good enough job to prevent me for bringing IBM or HP into my current shop.

Just make sure you use the OpenManage software for system monitoring. (Otherwise you might not get an alert when one of those HHD’s failed.

Hello,

Just to contribute paraphrasing almost every word already said by Slack400.
When needed, Dell support had been very good.

Dell servers are ok to me as it is cheaper than other servers. Been using it for about 3 years.

Yeah i agree that Open Manage (OMSA ) is a good tool to also tell you if your other hardware is not working.
