Are Lotus Sametime messages stored on the Domino server by default?

Lotus Sametime, Lotus Sametime/Instant Messaging, Domino server, Archives

If I am a Lotus Sametime instant messaging user, are my communications with other Lotus Notes users kept on the Lotus Domino server by default; or does some form of archiving have to be turned on? If they are in fact kept on the Lotus Domino server by default, do they remain on the there unless they are deleted?

No I do not believe that IM history is maintained by default. Having said that, a lot of organizations are maintaining e-mail, IM and chat history for compliance purposes. In the case of regulatory compliance such as SEC, SOX and so on, records must be kept for a certain period of time for possible discovery during ligitation. Organizations can also use this as a means of monitoring its employees to ensure that they are adhering to the acceptable use standards, as well as not improperly disclosing sensitive information.
