Archiving Save Files in the IFS

I am looking for ways to put my save files in the IFS - Putting them there is not a problem - the problem is being able to get them compressed down so they do not take as much space. I am currently using the compress option running in qshell. Is any one doing something else that makes the zip file smaller than what you get with the compress command ?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I haven’t tested it myself, but perhaps one solution would be to use PKWARE’s product: PKZIP for iSeries, ver 5.6. I believe it can compress the save files efficiently and the max file size limit for input/output files is quite large, I would think.

Check PKWARE’s web site:

http://www.pkware.com

You can also download and test the free evaluation version from there.

Actually I was also thinking a same kind of solution a while ago for my customers, but these (2) customer’s have both upgraded to larger iSeries systems, so that the storage problem is, at least so far gone.

cheers….Kaj B.

WinRAR is the most effective and versatile compression utility I have seen. http://www.rarlab.com/
