A few things that cause programs to not respond is they're probably corrupted. If the problem only affects a few application, then you may want to try reinstalling them. But if it sounds more like a general problem, you need to ask yourself--is your computer running low on resources? sometimes conflicts over resources can be a major problem too, and fixing it can be difficult depending on the kind of approach you do. If you're patient, you can either check and fix the problem yourself. It seems some kind of application is not proper installed. You need to reinstall that perticular application, which is getting error.

Another thing that you can check about some of your security software like your antivirus and antispyware. It might be possible that they are getting error. Try to disable them and after that open your application.

According to my experience, when an application appears as ‘not responding’ every time it is executed, in most cases it is due to the type/amount of work it executes, so I would look at the code of the application first.

If the application was working well and suddenly it starts behaving this way, then I would think it is in fact due to the lack of enough resources, and will use those excelent tools to debug the problem.

Look for items using high memory/processor utilization. They can also show PID’s and some process hooks like registry, file access, etc. Just a good source of debugging information.
