I am working on consolidation of 4 different systems which does same thing, to new platform based on new technology(J2EE,Workflow,RulesManagement etc),current systems are running on different mainframe and non mainframe platforms, for example: say loan processing system. I would like to know what are the key strategic decision to be made to design a better solution. what should be the Architecture Principles/Framework should I follow, I read Zackman,TOGAF. but I am not clear how to approach step by step. I like to know what should be my key deliverables to successfully consolidate. Any do's and dont's ?. Any one has prior experience on similar consolidation projects ? consolidation should have innovation, and still try to deliver on time, what is the best approach ? full blown consolidation of 4 systems or 1 at a time to new platform ? or piece by piece approach ? please give you experience and guide me.
I need guideline on project process and templates to be used, and step by step deliverables to have consistant and better standards and quality. Thank you.
Software/Hardware used: J2EE open source, workflow, rules management etc
