Anyone know if any VMWare will run on Eee PC 1005HA, Has Atom N270 Processor, 1GB of Ram
I used to run VMWare alot back in the day when I was in college and I remeber that it was a resource hog.  I was wanting to know if anyone had ever tried running it on a Eee PC 1005HA with N270 Atom Processor, 1 GB of Ram in it.  I've tweaked my performance of it a bit but don't have the extra money right now for RAM to put in it, just wondering if anybody had detailed use with VMware with this laptop and if I even have a chance of getting VMWare to work with it.  Send me an email at knetbb@gmail.com if anyone has any ideas, thanks!

Software/Hardware used:

From the website (at the bottom) and looking at Workstation 7.0 it would appear that your processor is fast enough for the minimum recommendations. It is not listed as compatible, but that does not mean it will not work. You can always contact them to ask. http://www.vmware.com/support/contacts/ Good luck. PC Hardware * Standard x86-compatible or x86-64-compatible personal computer * 733MHz or faster CPU minimum * Compatible processors include the following: Intel - Celeron, Pentium II, Pentium III, Pentium 4, Pentium M (including computers with Centrino mobile technology), Xeon(including “Prestonia”), Core, and Core 2 processors Memory * You need enough memory to run the host operating system, plus the memory required for each guest operating system and for applications on the host and guest. The minimum is 512MB (2GB is recommended). For memory requirements, see your guest operating system and application documentation. * As of version 7.0 of Workstation, the total amount of memory you can assign to all virtual machines running on a single host is limited only by the amount of RAM on the host. The maximum amount of memory for each virtual machine is 8GB. http://e5.onthehub.com/WebStore/OfferingDetails.aspx?ws=c677086f-a432-de11-9d57-0030485a8df0&vsro=8&o=145596f3-68cd-de11-baeb-0030487d8896

In this case, this is critical:

You need enough memory to run the host operating system, plus the memory required for each guest operating system and for applications on the host and guest“.

The OS of the host machine was not mentioned and it plays an important role here. If the OS alone is consuming lots of RAM, then you will not have enough memory to run a single VM.

There is an Ubuntu remix specially designed to run on netbooks, that might be of interest: Ubuntu Netbook Remix

If it does work the performance will suck.
