Working Remotely
Going Buffett (Jimmy that is, not Warren), has been in the news a lot recently. The idea is that you move to a remote area with a low cost of living, work remotely and save a ton of money.  While seemingly a pipe dream for most, there have been many very successful practitioners.  So what about you?  Any thoughts of living the Buffett Lifestyle?

Yes. It can be great for someone who's suited for it. It's been how I've lived since 2000. It requires agreement of immediate family. It can also be difficult when physical presence is needed at customer sites and in working offices. Even telecommuting can be a problem if communications lines cannot be guaranteed. After making the change, I wouldn't go back. -- Tom

Love the idea. It can certainly be isolating but that's good for many people. As long as it's practical for you and your situation, why not!?

The point Tom makes about the family is very important, I think.  I really like the idea too, but I'm sure my family doesn't.

I've been working remotely for near on two years.  My company is in another state. The basic fact is that I can work anywhere I can get Wi-Fi  The only thing that keeps me from picking up and moving to Peru or Chile is that the wife's job ties her to our current locale.  I have contemplated Buffett vacations, though.  Flying to somewhere else and working during the day, but enjoying the area at night.

I work remotely much of the time and have used that to play music across the country, give workshops, and still consult for clients. I refer to it as Geographically Untethered Income. My two current dreams/goals involve 1) some land and a few small cabin style homes - maybe New Mexico - where my children can both visit and escape to. and 2) sailing a boat from Mallory Square down to the islands - a true Jimmy Buffett Mecca.
