Over the past few days, I've started to notice that Avast is adding its signature to my outgoing emails. I did some research online and I found one article that says it's intercepting emails to add its signature. But I'm worried that they're reading my emails. Should I be? I use Firefox and Gmail.

I’ll have to check that out.. But I don’t think you need to be concerned with them reading your emails. To turn it off.

Follow the instructions below to do so:

  • Go to your Avast interface by double-clicking on the orange icon in the Windows system tray. ….
  • Once you’re in go to ‘Settings‘ by clicking on the cogwheel icon in the top-right corner of Avast user interface.
  • In the ‘General‘ section find option ‘Enable Avast email signature‘, simply un-check it and confirm by clicking on the ‘OK‘ button. ….
  • Restart your browser and that’s all – your e-mails won’t contain the Avast e-mail footer signature anymore.

A good general rule of thumb is to not send anything that you don't want to be read. Given all the variables/players involved, i.e. software vendors, ISPs, and government spies, there's no telling who is able to read (or do whatever) to your emails.

No, they never read emails, just check for viruses with their mechanism. If you don't like, you can turn off the signature, and before doing all of these, avast might sent a notification, but somehow you missed that. Just make it off from avast settings, or reinstall the same will resolve the issue.
