The junk email rules within the Outlook client can go along way to prevent spam, also if it is possible you can block international domains from sending you email this will also be done in the client and will decrease Spam, with that being said we also use an expensive tool called MXLogic it is the best Spam filter I have ever used.

We are using an externally hosted Barracuda spam filter http://www.tcnoc.com/) which works great for us. We used to use Antigen until the end of 2007 but it was a constant headache and sometimes a nightmare. Now I feel we don’t have a care in the world, so to speak. In part an onsite solution might feel more secure but with some of the spam filtering of Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007, we’re running smoothly.

I would recommend you check out Securence You can then limit your firewall to accept email from Securence’s IP ranges. There are other hosted filtering companies, but I have had great support from Securence.
FWIW, YMMV

we’re using a product called XWall for exchange. We’ve used this product for years and it works very well and the price cannot be beat.

We are using IMSS from TrendMicro. It is working pretty well for us. The price per license also not too bad. Check it out

They also have the same softwrae in Appliance, we are using Software only not the appliance. We are very happy with it.

Hi Symyuser,

May I know the difference of Trend Micro IMSS to Trend Micro Scan Mail?

We started out with Symantec email antispam. However, it was expensive per seat. I moved us to Sunbelt Software’s Ninja and it works pretty well. I like the way it dumps the spam into the user’s Spam Quarantine box and lets the user decide if it’s spam. It helps cut down on the false positives.

We use externally hosted vendor Message Labs to do all our SPAM filtering. Taking care of it ourselves was becoming a full time job! They guarantee 95% reduction in SPAM and 100% blocking of email viruses. Well worth it to us to let them do it since we have 12000+ email users!

We’re using the “same” Barracuda spam filter that Willybst mentioned. From time to time (usually right between updates, or a down spam server), we might get a blast of spam. For the most part, spam is a very-very-very small issue.
