Assuming amber lights are not the norm on the switch then it looks like this, is a problem with the port. If the port is not a built in port (It is a GBIC or something) then you may been to just replace the GBIC. If the port is a built in port the switch will likely need to be replaced. Here is the good news... some manufactures actually will use amber lights for a different reason than a bad port. It's annoying that there isn't a standard color for recognizing bad ports... but a fact that there isn't. Some manufacturers will use amber to indicae different speeds or duplexes. In this latter case you could check to ensure the port and the device plugged into the port are both negotiating at the same speed, 100Mb full duplex for example on both ends. Some switches and some cards don't play well together and this might be the "issue" Lastly, it could be as simple as it is a Gigabit switch and the port is running at 100Mb/s. Check with your hardware manufacturer or your switch documentation to be sure.
