Alternate IPL device on AS/400
I need to know how to determine the current Alternate IPL device on our AS/400 model 270, and (possibly) how to change that to a different device. We plan to use a different tape device for system backups and restores, from the original tape device that came with our system.

If you print a rack config (use SRTSST) you can see which device is defined as the Alternate IP device. Many devices cannot be the alternate IP device, but can be defined as the Alternate Installation device for restores. The Backup will go to whatever tape resource you define in the cammand the drives the backup. Backup and Recovery Guide talks about this. Good luck.
