Printing
Ugh... Is there an easy way to "match up" an overlay with the printer file output, rather than by trial and error? I have a Word Doc (created by user) that they want for a Bill of Lading Form, and I've created the overlay...unfortunately, the majority of the output looks fine, but some fields print on, or above certain lines. Is there anything (software) that will show you how the printing will look before actually printing it? I've tried changing CPI/LPI, etc... When I try changing the Word Doc itself, it will screw up the form and look worse than before. Thanks... p.s. I've tried Excel and it's no better.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You may look into product ITP from Aia Software. go to http://www.aia-itp.com/.
This solution is not a forms overlay solution, but at ‘generate final document’ solution.
best luck

I have had the same problem. Most of it is because of how the user created the document in word. I forget the exact problems, but if they use shading instead of cross hatch (or something equally silly) it varies how wide the shaded part is. We had different results with different versions of Word as well. Trial and error is the only way to get it right and it is time (and paper) consuming. I gave up and bought a product called interform 400. It is a forms designer and and outq monitor with the ability to fax, email, etc. I had already had their Blueseries fax product so both products are integrated. It has a nice view with spool file feature so you can see how your output fits with the form. There are many forms overlay products available. They make the job much easier.

Thanks...I figured Trial & Error would be the only way. I'll look into that product.

We used a tool called Hijack. It converted the WORD document into an overlay object. I had no problem with this tool.
