Q:
Advice on Career Change to SAP FI/CO Consultant
I have a Computer Science degree and have been a developer for the last 13 years. The last 4 years as an ABAP developer, the last two of those years as SAP Dev. Lead.
I have experience in BSP's, Workflow, CRM as well as R/3 modules.
However, I feel that as I get older that I should maybe consider moving into the Functional Consultant role.
I deally this would be SAP CRM because of the technical nature of the work and because of my experience in this module.

However a vacancy has arisen where I work for an SAP FI/CO consultant.
Firstly, do I need an accountancy background?
Would it be a good move, in your opinion?
I'm just concerned about making the wrong move, not enjoying the role, or just giving up on the array of technical experience I've gained.
Would it be a step backwards given my current experience?
Sorry, a lot of questions here, but any opinions would be welcome.
Many Thanks
David

If you have SAP CRM experience and enjoy that area of the field, my suggestion would be to stay with it.

I'm not "recruiting anyone" here, but I do have to speak from my experience AS a recruiter.

The CRM field is HOT. Yes, there is strong demand for FI/CO, but, based on what crosses my desk (and I help a number of other recruiting firms fill their positions, so I see literally hundreds of openings), the CRM field has a stronger demand.

That can always change, but that is what I see "on the ground" right now.

Sincerely,
