Is there a clear advantage and ROI to expand IT networks to enable physical security applications such as IP video. These applications typically require significant bandwidth resources.

The advantages of expanding the existing data networks to support IP Video:

A. Allows for Cameras to be placed throughout the enterprise and monitored/recorded in a
central location.

B. Much quicker and less overall expense to deploy cameras since Data infrastructure is
often already in place.

C. Data Infrastructure does not usually need to be upgraded to support IP Video. Single 100Mbit
Ethernet connection can support approximately 32 Cameras.

Disadvantages:

A. IP Cameras are usually more expensive then Analog cameras.

B. IP Cameras picture quality isn't as clear as analog cameras.

there are some good IP cameras that have clear pictures but as said above they are expensive. one good software product that we use is Active WebCam by Pysoft.
