Hi there,
My favorite Windows AD book is-
Active Directory Services for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Technical Reference

I usually prefer only Microsoft Press books but I liked this one too:
Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Design and Implementation: Creating, Migrating, and Merging Networks

Thanks!
David

There really is no “best book” per se. Texts are written in different ways and are intended for a range of audiences. You need to determine what writing style best suits you and then purchase books from that publisher. For example, there is Microsoft Press, SAMS and O’Reilly. Some are dry for lack of a better word, other make use of lots of pictures and graphics and so on.

Personally, I like Microsoft Press books because there is no better source of information than from the horse’s mouth, if you will. I also like SAMS. You can also review TechNet for detailed information on Active Directory and other Microsoft products and services.
