I recently installed SQL Server 2008 R2 onto my local machine. However, I can't create a new database because I'm getting the following message:

CREATE DATABASE PERMISSION DENIED

After I saw that message, I tried to switch my administrator privileges but I received this:

"User does not have permission to perform this action."

Is there a way to give myself administrator privileges in SQL Server 2008?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

When you did the install did you use Mixed Authentication mode? If so then log in using the ‘sa’ credentials that you set up. If you are not sure about the password for sa then look at this link option 2.
