Can we add an expiration date to a optical disk rendering it useless after a specific date? We also need to prevent users from rolling back the clock to fix the issue.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

That would have to be done via software which the disks installs on ever computer that it is put into, basically the same sort of DRM which music and DVD companies put on their disks to prevent you from using the software.

Giving that this DRM software is usually useless, no there really isn’t a good way to do this.

If you have users that you can’t trust, then you need new users.

I suppose if you encrypted everything you want to protect and included a program that decrypted and presented the data, but only after contacting a remote site and retrieving a date-seeded decryption key, and also invented a way to prevent screen-captures and other intermediate access methods, you'd get pretty close. When you work out the process, patent it. Tom

Didn't somebody a few years ago try to market a one use CD or DVD for movie/music rentals that would degrade when exposed to air so that after 48 hours or so they could not be read?
