Adding additional fields in Active Directory Users and computers

MMC, Active Directory, AdminPak, manage user account

Is it possible to add user defined (or custom ) fields to the display pane of the AD users and computers MMC?

Example: we have accounts that have different attributes (network storage, e-mail). We have account managers (who will not have any admin rights) who will be tracking the numbers of these accounts. What we would like to do is add an additional field with some text identifier that, when the users container is exported to Excel, can be easily identified.

Shawn,

it depends on what version of windows server you are using. I know that with Windows Server 2003 you can use ADSIEDIT.mmc to edit the schema of active directory. you can get it from Microsoft.

**** BUT **** be forewarned!! making one mistake with this program can hose your entire network since any changes made will replicate across your domain. please read up on editing the schema on Microsoft's website and be very careful with what you are doing. there, you have been warned.

thanks, Buddy
