When I receive a distribution list as an attachment in an email, I am not able to add it to my contacts. I have tried dragging the file into my contacts but I get an error reading that the file cannot be copies.. I need to share dist. lists with my boss and cannot get the ones I receive to save to my contacts. Help. thanks Gwen

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Instead of dragging and dropping, Open the list and click on Save and Close.

Then there is always the work-around of copying the dist. list contents into a .txt file and pasting back into your contacts; I'm sure our experts will give me a rap on the knuckles for that one =)

I have tried opening htis in Ourlook an clicking the save feature, but that does not work either. I am using Outlook 2007 with all service packs updated. I have not tried the text conversion yet. How do I go about that?

Oh I forgot to say that we use Scalix instead of Microsoft Exchange here.

The only way I was able to get a distribution list sent to me in Outlook 2007 to my contacts was:
  • Open the email message (but not the distribution list attachment)
  • Move it to the side so you can see the contact folders
  • Click and drag the icon from the message to the folder
  • Close the message and check the contacts folder
  • I was not able to find any way to move a distribution list (sent by email) while I had it open.

When following Techie1Keno's directions I receive the following error when dropping the vcard into the contact folder: (running Windows xp outlook 2007) Cannot copy the items. The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart outlook.

Techie1Kenobi’s directions worked great for me in Outlook 2007 on Windows 7. Thanks a bunch!

I've tried all of these steps and nothing works. I am running 2007 on an exchange server. If i click the file it's empty. If I drag and drop I only get the person who sent me the dl contact info. What gives?
